Sam, the Paper Boy

By Harold Smith

My story today, boys and girls, is about Sam, the newspaper boy. Sam was one of many newspaper boys, who after school each night would deliver their newspapers. On this particular Friday night, one of the other newspaper boys said to Sam, "Are you coming down to supper at the Hall tonight?" "Oh", Sam said, "I didn't know anything about any supper". The other boy said, "Well, you're welcome to come, there are free tickets, it doesn't cost you anything. If you'll go over and see Mr. Kenney, he'll give you a free ticket to come down to the supper tonight". So Sam ran over and sure enough, Mr. Kenney said, "You're welcome to come, everybody's welcome!" He gave Sam a ticket so they'd let him in when he came to the supper. So the boys started out for the supper, and when they got there, there was a crowd of newspaper boys there and they all sat down to supper and Sam sat down among them. They were all very hungry after selling their papers all afternoon. They had a good supper. After supper, they had a little singing and one young man got up - he used to be a newspaper boy too - and he started to tell people about the Lord Jesus, and how the Lord had saved him, and how Christ came into the world to save sinners, and how everybody needed to be saved. Sam was hearing something he had never heard much about before. The man concluded by saying, "Everybody's invited out to the Boys Meeting every Sunday afternoon. We'd be glad to see everybody come". Sure enough, Sunday afternoon, Sam was at the Boys Meeting - and the next Sunday, and the next Sunday, and before the year was out, Sam was wonderfully saved! He'd come to put his trust in the Lord Jesus as his Savior. Sam was a new boy, because the Bible says, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new" - 2 Corinthians 5:17. All the customers and everybody else knew that Sam had been saved because he told others about the Lord Jesus and he let His light shine before men like a Christian should. Now, boys and girls, if you claim to be saved, are you showing it to others? Do other people know that you're saved? Are you telling them that you're a Christian? Are you telling them about the Savior? That's a good sign of salvation! If you're not telling out the good news to others, it could be a sign that you're really not saved at all. Do trust the savior, like Sam, and show it, tell it out to others, that they might know the Savior too!
