Shindy, the African Boy

By Harold Smith

It's great, boys and girls, to be saved and know the Lord Jesus as your Savior! This story is about a little African boy named Shindy. There were some missionaries who would come around once a year to the village where Shindy lived and have tent meetings. Shindy came to the missionary's tent door, and he sat there and waited. He tried to talk to the missionaries in his language and they asked him, "What do you want, Shindy?" And he answered, "I want to believe. I want to become a believer in your God". They had told Shindy about the true and living God who created all things, and how He loved people and sent His Son into the world to die on a cross to save us from our sins, and how we are all sinners. Well, this little African boy listened very intently and God opened his heart and he trusted in the Lord Jesus as his Savior and he was saved. Then Shindy said, "I would like to go to your Bible school so I can learn English and study the Bible". So they said, "You are welcome to come!". Well, it was quite a few miles away, but Shindy remembered where it was and eventually made it to the Bible school. He turned out to be a very brilliant student. He learned very well. He learned to read God's Word. When it came to be time for summer vacaction, Shindy went back to his people, and he talked to them from the Bible about God and God's Son, and the great salvation that we all need that God has provided. But do you know something? No one learned, except for his sister. His sister came back to the Bible school, but his sister wasn't saved, until one day the missionaries, talking to his sister, explained to her that she could be saved the same as her brother Shindy. The sister said, "I don't want to be left out, I want to be saved like Shindy, because I see a big difference in my brother". So she too entered in by the Door - the One who said, "I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved... " - John 10:9. Shindy's sister came in through that Door and she too was saved by the grace of God. They finished their Bible school and they went back to their village and their people with changed lives. They told the people about a Savior that loved them and died for them and could save them when they put their trust in Him. Have you trusted Him? If you haven't, why don't you do like Shindy and his sister? Trust the Lord Jesus this very moment and be saved. You'll be glad that you did!
