There are many thousands of little orphan boys and girls in India, and Shundra was one of them. She was a sad little girl, not merely because she had no father or mother like you do - to love and care for her - but because her burden of sin was weighing heavily upon her. Shundra made four long pilgrammages (journies) hoping to find forgiveness and peace. Along the way she suffered a great deal but nothing seemed to help her. Each time, she brought her burden back with her and it was always heavier than before. There was no peace in her heart, all was dark and hopeless. Long hours she sat under the burning rays of the hot sun, surrounded by fires. Then on wintry nights she would sit in icy waters for hours, counting beads. But still, she found no peace. The heavy burden of sin was still there. She thought that by sitting in the sun and in the icy water, that she could find salvation. At last, a missionary one day found Shundra and spoke to her of the Savior. He told her about how God loves her and freely would forgive all her sins if she would put her trust in the Lord Jesus, His dear son. He told her that Jesus died on the cross and shed His precious blood so that she might have peace with God. Furthermore, the only way she could know forgiveness and peace for sure, he told her, was by trusting in that Savior. Shundra listened to that wonderful message of the Gospel, and she believed, and she received by faith into her heart the Lord Jesus as her Savior. Immediately she felt the burden of sin was gone and gone forever. She had peace she had never known before. Her heart, so long filled with sorrow, was filled with gladness. So she went away singing a little song of praise, about all He had done for her. The Bible says "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life". Shundra had found a friend in Jesus, a friend who sticks closer than a brother. She found in Him too a loving Father, who cares for her and watches over her night and day. Do you know the Savior and that Heavenly Father? If not, then you come like Shundra as a sinner and receive that Savior as your own today. Why not do it and be saved!
